The Beatles – Top Ten Non #1s
Ok last Friday I posted a video and promised to list the best of the Beatles tunes that did not hit #1. This has proven to be a difficult exercise for me because there are so many songs that I like. The criteria was fairly simple: The song had to be performed by the Beatles and could not have have been included in 27 number 1 songs on the CD The Beatles 1. So I have collected my CDs, surfed YouTube, and jammed. One is struck by the breadth, development and (in my opinion) the quality of the music that in a few short years changed everything. So with these words I will list my the Stoned-Campbell Top Ten Non #1 Beatles songs … Click on each title for a video on YouTube for that song …

4) A Day in the Life (Mick Jagger makes an appearance)

How would your Top Ten Non #1 look? Nearly the same? Radically different?

Great list. My only change would be to have “A Day in the Life” as the #1. Musically, it changed things forever and should be near the top of ANY pop/rock list.

I’d have to go back and look at the #1s album. That IS a good list. Don’t think I’d change much, if anything.

Ummm.. haven’t been practicing my nostalgia much lately so I’ll have to think. Some of the ones I have in mind from the early days probably were no. 1. How about Tomorrow Never Knows from Revolver? Once, in the middle of his show, PDQ Bach (aka Peter Schikele) played “This Boy”. His explanation and placement gave me new respect for it. Sublime.

I think it is so important that we keep their music alive through other bands. Younger generations need to experience the music of this fantastic band. I have heard that Paul is going to go on tour and John Lennons son Julian is also going to be going on tour as well. These are both must see shows.
