Well, when you get right down to it, none of us see the whole of reality anyway… there are entire realms we don’t see or hear. I think, however, to suggest that any happiness you may have felt over the last years was an illusion is delusional in itself. But then people are always trying to revise history. Just because someone feels one way today doesn’t make yesterday’s feelings any less valid.

I had a friend whose thirty-year marriage broke up. My friend said to the departing spouse, “Well, at least we had ten or fifteen good years.”
“No,” was the reply, “about six months.”
I think I agree with Jeanne that there is frequently revisionist thinking going on.
